What is therapeutic support?

The support we deliver is based on the cognitive behavioural therapy model (/cbt.)

In short this means that when we are working with a service user, we are not only addressing their practical needs but also their emotional needs. Whilst we engage in conversation we address and explore the reasons behind why they may may feel or react in a certain way.

We consider aspects of the emotional self such as emotional regulation and empower the service user to gain a better insight into their own behaviour and guide them towards adopting life-long transferable skills to help them regain control over their emotional self. We recognise and help individuals develop and apply the tools they already have to allow them to challenge any uncomfortable or confusing feelings.

We always offer a safe space to talk and our staff are highly trained in active listening. Right from the start our person centred approach encourages the service user to lead and receive their support at a pace and in a way that is outlined by them.

A note from one of our Support Workers:

"Today I was told by a person we support, they were afraid to do something that they were passionate about before they became unwell; art.
We spoke about the significant impact their illness had had on this passion, and about ways those uncomfortable feelings could be challenged.
I later received this beautiful image that they had found the courage to draw.
This budding flower represents a whole lot more than what you see at first. It represents bravery, talent, passion and a determination to accept the things we cannot change, and know that no matter how broken we may have been, new buds will begin to blossom if we allow ourselves to take the risk."
